Beyond the Surface
Installation for presenting the project Havsbitar v.2 at Konstfack’s Spring Exhibition. Havsbitar (“Sea Bites”) is a range of fish fingers created in response to the growing pressure that the world’s fish stocks are suffering because of overfishing.
This exhibition space takes visitors beneath the surface, giving them a glimpse into the hidden complexities of the food system that remain unseen from above. Simultaneously, it informs and encourages visitors to make changes to their own food habits.

To enhance the already muffled acoustics and darkness of the original space, the colour blue was incorporated to emphasize the ambiance and evoke a sense of being submerged underwater for the visitors.
The podiums, with their mimicry of the transparency found in deep sea creatures, allowed light to pass through them, creating a transformative effect on the space. The wooden top is intended to evoke the warmth of a home environment, resembling a table top or a kitchen counter.
Two spaces where created: one where Havsbitar 2.0 was contextualized in the scenario of a local food system in Sweden and the other, further inside (where the sound became even more muffled), with today’s fish fingers and a world map showing that a single fish finger comes from different parts of the world.
